Issue 3, January 2010

Happy New Year and welcome to the first Resonate KT newsletter of the new decade. We've had a fantastic vacation, and it was great to get to spend time and share gifts with our families. If you're anything like me though gifts are not so much about the surprise, but more about the anticipation of knowing what you are going to receive and the joy of opening the wrapping when they finally arrive.

I remember when I was young the most exciting part of the Christmas season was hunting all over the house to find out where my parents had hidden the presents, just so I knew what to expect when the big day finally arrived. So, over the next couple of issues I thought I'd share some of our excitement with you, and tell you about some of the great updates we have planned for the course of the coming months.

We begin in this issue by talking more about the forthcoming release of ActiveView 2.0. Enjoy.

A Sneak Peak into ActiveView 2.0

ActiveView IconComing soon to a Content Server near you: ActiveView 2.0. For those who didn't already know, ActiveView helps organizations to increase the usability of their Content Server platform by simplifying the user interface and surfacing otherwise hidden information. This significant release brings a slew of great new capabilities to ActiveView.

One of the new introductions in ActiveView 2.0 is the ability to provide a dynamic, device specific presentation of the content within almost any Content Server container. Workspaces can be tailored to the role of the user visiting them. For example, if an active member visits our project they may see task lists and other incomplete deliverables. However, when a guest visits they are just presented with the finalized and published content.

ActiveView IconActiveView 2.0's ability to simplify the user experience goes beyond folder content listings. A group of document clerks working in a specific folder hierarchy are most likely not interested in functions such as Make Generation, Make News, and the multitude of other options that appear every time they click on a function menu. They likely just want to view or move documents. So why present them with more? With ActiveView 2.0 we introduce the ability to simplify Content Server menus too, globally or right down to a specific folder. It's as easy as adding a couple of new lines in to your ActiveView.

If this has whet your appetite why not contact us for a personal demonstration or to find out more.

Showcase: WebReports Extensions for Workflow

Using jQuery to Update Workflow Statuses

This issue our nerds take a look at how to use jQuery in combination with WR Services to change the status of a workflow. In core Content Server it is not possible to move a workflow through two status changes in a single action. As an example, a workflow needs to first be stopped before it can be deleted. A user attempting to delete a workflow with a status of "In Progress" will simply receive an error message. Using jQuery and WR Services we can manage the status changes in a more controlled way so that the workflow passes through all necessary intermediate steps before changing to the status selected by the user. This allows us to select any number of workflows, in whatever state, and change them all to one single state, taking all necessary actions along the way.

The WebReports jQuery library can invoke WR Services requests with the following syntax: $.WR.invoke(workID, subtagStr, handlerFunction);

If you want to see this in action we have created an example for you to look at on the WebReports demo site.
